Please join the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit and Science Gallery Lab Detroit as we present The Intersection: Queer Technologies at the End of the Internet. This program will feature the work of transdisciplinary artist Zach Blas followed by conversation with Detroit’s very own Mother Cyborg. Blas will present the short film Contra-Internet: Jubilee 2033 a work that re-imagines scenes from filmmaker Derek Jarman’s 1978 queer punk film Jubilee. Guided by an artificial intelligence named Azuma, characters in the film are transported to a dystopian Silicon Valley. As Apple, Facebook, and Google campuses burn characters encounter a contra-internet prophet, who lectures on the end of the internet as we know it. Following the screening of Jubilee 2033 Blas will give a short performative lecture unpacking his work around surveillance software, securitization of romance and biometric capture. The program will conclude with a conversation between Blas and Mother Cyborg-a music technology based performer who builds opportunities to connect stories, invigorate the soul and elevate our collective consciousness of technology. Please join us as we explore the queering of technology, the science of the internet and learn how subsequent technologies have shaped our present and more importantly the future.
