Fill in the blanks: The gaze_as images_meaning_through media

Images no lon­ger belong to fixed con­texts or sin­gu­lar author­ship, but cir­cu­la­te end­les­sly through net­works, muta­ting how they are seen and under­stood. These films ope­ra­te within that dis­per­sed con­di­ti­on, reve­a­ling how per­cep­ti­on shifts as ima­ges travel.

This pro­gram focu­ses on how the move­ment of ima­ges (rather than the ima­ges them­sel­ves) sha­pes rea­li­ty, influ­en­cing both what we see and how we see it.

Rather than resis­ting cir­cu­la­ti­on, the­se works inha­bit dis­per­si­on itself, using expo­si­ti­on and dis­rup­ti­on to turn net­wor­ked ima­ge sys­tems back onto them­sel­ves, reflec­ting on our own posi­ti­on within them.

Art Cinema OFFoff is a plat­form for expe­ri­men­tal cine­ma and audio­vi­su­al art. Time and again, OFFoff sear­ches for films from the past and pre­sent that enter into cine­ma­to­grap­hic and nar­ra­ti­ve expe­ri­ments, often navi­ga­ting bet­ween cine­ma and the other arts. The pro­ta­go­nists of avant-gar­de cine­ma are che­ris­hed. At the same time, the clas­si­cal canon is upda­ted and con­fron­ted with ​‘for­got­ten’ films, new media, con­tem­po­ra­ry voi­ces and diver­gent perspectives.
